Leslie Hawke came to Romania as a volunteer of United Peace Corps in 2000. In 2001 together
with Maria Gheorghiu she initiated the program “Ready, Willing and Able” created for women and
porr children. Hawke and Gheorghiu initiated a Romanian NGO, Ovidiu Rom Association, through
which they extended “Ready, Willing and Able” campaign in Bucharest in 2004.
In January 2005, USAID offered Leslie Hawke the Outstanding Citizen Citation for the development
of “ Ready, Willing and Able” program created in the benefit of children and poor gipsy family.
On October 28, 2006 took place the second edition of Halloween Charity Ball, in which organization
committee Leslie Hawke was member.
